A new manufacturing facility in Findlay Township, Pennsylvania, is set to receive $87 million in federal funding as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The facility, which will span nearly 300,000 square feet, will create approximately 900 jobs in Southwestern Pennsylvania, producing energy-efficient linear generators that convert mechanical energy into electricity.
Mainspring Energy, a Silicon Valley-based company, plans to construct the facility near Pittsburgh International Airport. The company aims to produce 1,000 linear generators annually, which will provide power to critical sectors such as hospitals, businesses, and data centers. These generators are known for their flexibility, as they can run on a variety of fuels.
The project is expected to break ground in 2025, with a total investment of $175 million in the region. Of the 900 jobs created, 291 will be in construction, with a focus on unionized labor, while the remaining 600 will be permanent operational positions. Once operational, the facility is projected to generate 1GWh of electricity annually, enough to power 250,000 U.S. homes.
The funding is part of a larger $428 million federal investment in 15 communities affected by the decline of the coal industry. Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey and Congressman Chris Deluzio, who advocated for the project, praised the investment’s potential to bolster the region’s role in energy innovation and manufacturing.
“This investment positions Southwestern Pennsylvania at the forefront of future energy solutions,” said Senator Casey.
The facility’s creation is part of the broader efforts to support clean energy and advanced manufacturing through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
