Mid-level textile companies are leveraging innovation and product development to strengthen their market positions, with a particular focus on Eri silk products. These companies are experiencing growth by introducing unique offerings and emphasizing sustainability.
Starling Silk Mills, for instance, recently launched Eri silk T-shirts noted for their comfort, lightweight feel, and soft texture. The company is also experimenting with blends, such as Eri silk combined with linen. “We have invested significantly in research and development to bring these products to market, ensuring hygienic and sustainable production methods,” stated MA Rahaman, Director at Starling Silk Mills. Based in Baranagar, Malda district, West Bengal, the company has expanded its production capacity with the addition of four circular knitting machines. It showcased its latest collection at a sourcing expo, highlighting operations in Guwahati and Hyderabad. Rahaman noted a growing interest in sustainable products, which aligns with the company’s goals.
Another company, Ereena, a leader in Eri silk products, has introduced new Eri fabric designs, including Ikat and digital prints as well as embroidery options. Naga Bhushan, head of marketing and merchandising at Ereena, commented, “Eri silk’s development and sustainability aspects are drawing increasing interest from international consumers, a trend that we expect to grow further.”
Eri silk is valued for its eco-friendly properties, with a low carbon footprint and an ethical production process that does not harm silkworms, making it a choice for environmentally-conscious consumers.
