Bengaluru, Feb 13 (PTI) – Leading global aerospace companies, including Airbus, Rolls-Royce, Safran, and Collins Aerospace, have announced plans to increase sourcing from India, citing the country’s growing role in the global aerospace and defense supply chain.

During a panel discussion titled “India at the Core: Shaping the Future of Global A&D Sourcing” at the Global Investors’ Meet – Invest Karnataka 2025, company representatives expressed confidence in India’s capabilities and future potential in the sector.

Michel Narchi, Head of International Operations at Airbus, highlighted the progress India’s aerospace sector has made in recent years. He stated that the company’s partnership with India has resulted in a doubling of supply chain volume over the past five years, with India now contributing over one billion euros to Airbus’ global supply chain. He also projected continued growth in this contribution in the coming years.

Jean-Noel Mahieu, Executive Vice President of Operations at Safran Electronics and Defense, emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships in India, while Huw Morgan, Senior Vice President of Aerospace Procurement at Rolls-Royce, stated that the company aims to double its sourcing from India within the next five years.

Savyasachi Srinivas, Vice President of Engineering at Collins Aerospace, noted that the company currently exports approximately $500 million worth of aerospace products from India annually and expects this figure to rise.

Srinivasan Dwarakanath, Director General of the Aerospace India Association and former CEO of Airbus India, pointed out that both Boeing and Airbus forecast a demand for more than 42,000 new aircraft globally over the next 20 years, with India placing a significant number of orders. He noted that while India is contributing to global aviation growth, its aerospace supply chain currently represents only about 1% of the global supply chain.

Dwarakanath added that the global aerospace supply chain was valued at $180 billion in 2023 and is projected to increase to $250 billion by 2033. He also highlighted that India’s annual aerospace exports currently stand at $2 billion, suggesting room for further expansion in the sector.

The announcements underscore India’s growing role in aerospace manufacturing and supply chain activities, as international firms seek to strengthen their operations in the region.
