Actor Johnny Depp has issued a warning to his supporters about online scammers impersonating him to solicit money and personal information. In a recent Instagram post, Depp highlighted the increasing sophistication of these fraudulent activities, noting that artificial intelligence is being used to convincingly mimic his appearance and voice.
“Sadly, it has been brought to my attention that online scammers are intensifying their efforts to target my fans and supporters,” Depp stated. “As part of their tactics, they create multiple, deceptive social media and email accounts impersonating me and members of my team.”
Depp emphasized that neither he nor his team would ever request money or personal details from fans. He clarified that his official social media presence is limited to Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, and that he does not use platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Snapchat, or Discord. He also stated that he does not offer paid meetings, phone calls, or other services, advising that any such solicitations are scams.
This warning follows reports of significant financial losses by fans deceived by these impersonators. According to a December 2024 report by Gizmodo, the Federal Trade Commission received 197 complaints in 2024 about scammers posing as Depp, with one individual reportedly losing $350,000.
Depp’s alert aligns with similar warnings from other celebrities, including Whoopi Goldberg and Tom Hanks, who have also been targeted by impersonation scams. He assured fans that his team is actively working to combat these illicit activities and urged vigilance to avoid falling victim to such frauds.
