Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, Duong Ngoc Hai, met with newly appointed Vietnamese ambassadors and consuls-general on November 15 to discuss enhancing the city’s socio-economic growth and international collaboration. The meeting gathered 26 diplomats who will represent Vietnam across five continents during the 2024-2027 term. Hai urged the diplomats to support Ho Chi Minh City’s development priorities, including fostering economic diplomacy, sustainable growth, and international cooperation.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Do Hung Viet, emphasized the role of these diplomats as vital links between Vietnam and the global community, helping the city stay informed about global trends and connect with international partners. The ambassadors highlighted the importance of early communication regarding cultural, economic, and diplomatic events, such as food festivals and cultural celebrations, to facilitate collaboration. They also suggested the city develop promotional materials to showcase its achievements ahead of significant anniversaries, such as the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification.
During the meeting, Hai outlined the city’s focus on science, technology, innovation, green transition, and digital transformation as key drivers of growth. He shared plans to attract foreign investment in high-tech sectors, including information technology, biotechnology, automation, and clean energy, alongside semiconductor manufacturing and next-generation technologies.
Ho Chi Minh City is also seeking investment for 54 public-private partnership (PPP) projects in areas like culture, healthcare, transportation, and education. Hai stressed the importance of leveraging government support and external resources, including capital, expertise, and technology, to achieve sustainable development and establish the city as a modern, livable urban hub. The ambassadors were called upon to support economic, cultural, and people-to-people diplomacy, promote international cooperation, and raise the city’s profile as an attractive destination for investment and partnerships.
