DHL Group has acquired Cryopdp, a white-glove logistics provider specializing in the transportation of clinical trials, biopharma, and cell and gene therapies. Cryopdp, based in Nashville, Tennessee, is now part of DHL’s expanding life sciences and healthcare logistics portfolio. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Cryopdp, headquartered near Paris, handles over 600,000 shipments annually, serving customers and patients in more than 135 countries. This acquisition aligns with DHL’s strategy to strengthen its position in the specialty pharmaceuticals logistics sector and further its goal of becoming a leader in life sciences and healthcare logistics by 2030. DHL plans to integrate Cryopdp with the existing capabilities of DHL Express and DHL Global Forwarding.
The acquisition is viewed as a significant step in expanding DHL’s Pharma Specialized Network, focusing on clinical trials, biopharma, and cell and gene therapies, while also enhancing its presence in the broader pharmaceutical and healthcare market.
Along with the acquisition, DHL and Cryoport, the parent company of Cryopdp, have announced a partnership aimed at improving supply chains within the global life sciences and healthcare sector. The partnership will enable Cryoport to expand its operations in the Asia Pacific region, as well as in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
DHL’s life sciences and healthcare division generated over $5 billion in global revenue in 2024, highlighting the growing importance of this sector. The acquisition follows similar moves in the logistics industry, with competitors such as UPS and FedEx also focusing on expanding their footprint in the high-margin life sciences shipping market.
Earlier this year, UPS completed the acquisition of Germany’s Frigo-Trans and its sister company BPL, both of which specialize in temperature-controlled logistics services. FedEx has also prioritized healthcare as a key growth segment, with plans to increase its healthcare revenue substantially in the coming fiscal year.
This acquisition and the associated partnership reinforce the growing competition among global logistics companies to capture a larger share of the life sciences and healthcare logistics market.
