Chicago (Illinois) – May 6, 2024 – Comau unveiled its latest addition to its lineup, the S-Family of industrial robots, during Automate 2024, a prominent automation exhibition in North America. The new robots, designed for versatility and precision, are tailored for assembly, arc welding, and handling tasks where speed and accuracy are paramount.
The S-Family robots, available in two models with payloads ranging from 13 kg to 18 kg, are engineered to deliver high performance while maintaining a compact footprint. Their design, marked by a distinctive red color, reflects Comau’s commitment to expanding automation into various industries beyond automotive manufacturing.
These robots offer enhanced accessibility to confined spaces, thanks to their compact and robust build. Their energy-efficient design, certified by Fraunhofer procedures, facilitates reduced energy consumption and operational costs without compromising performance.
Designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions, such as water and dust, the S-Family robots feature an IP68-rated hollow wrist design. This design allows for agile movement while safeguarding internal cabling from potential damage.
Moreover, the S-Family robots boast fully integrated arc and gigabit dressings, streamlining installation and minimizing maintenance requirements. This integration enables faster response times and reduces the risk of cable damage, enhancing overall reliability.
The versatility of the S-Family extends beyond traditional manufacturing sectors to include applications in e-Mobility, food and beverage, as well as general assembly. Additionally, these robots offer flexible mounting options, including floor, wall, or ceiling, optimizing space utilization.
Nicole Clement, Chief Business Unit Leader for Advanced Automation Solutions at Comau, highlighted the company’s dedication to simplifying automation deployment across diverse industries. She emphasized the S-Family’s role in meeting the evolving automation needs of non-automotive sectors.
The S-Family robots have undergone rigorous testing and certification for energy efficiency, adhering to Fraunhofer procedures. They are available in two payload configurations with a reach of 1700 mm and a repeatability of ±0.03mm.
