Babcock Australasia has initiated discussions with numerous international stakeholders to explore commercial opportunities for its Australian-based supply chain. Members of Babcock’s Global Supply Chain team recently spent four weeks in the UK and Europe identifying specific export opportunities for Australian SMEs within Babcock’s international operations. This effort follows Babcock’s recent inclusion in the Global Supply Chain Program (GSCP), a Commonwealth initiative aimed at helping Australian suppliers access global markets. The GSCP is designed to help suppliers diversify their revenue sources and remain viable through fluctuations in domestic demand.
The GSCP’s 13 member primes collaborate with national suppliers to develop and scale their solutions for international tenders and export opportunities. Since its launch in 2007, the program has facilitated $1.9 billion in contracts for over 250 Australian suppliers. “We are engaging across all Babcock business units and regions to introduce the GSCP and advocate for Australian capabilities,” said Kellie Jenkins, Global Supply Chain Program Manager at Babcock Australasia. “Our goal is to create more opportunities for Australian businesses through our global networks, including clients such as the UK Ministry of Defence.”
Babcock has also been in contact with economic development agencies like Austrade and Team Defence Australia to forge connections with Australian businesses pursuing export opportunities. Earlier this month, the GSCP team joined Team Defence Australia at the International Defence Industry and Military Technology Exhibition (MSPO) in Poland. There, they met with Australian suppliers and potential international customers to promote the GSCP and discuss how the program can enhance international supply chains with offerings from Babcock’s Australian suppliers.
“This tour has been instrumental in understanding the needs of our international business and has already led to several active leads,” Jenkins added. “We are committed to supporting our Australian suppliers and achieving the goals of our government customers by providing continuous access to a wide range of science, technology, and engineering expertise.”
