A delegation from the Australian Institute of International Affairs-Victoria (AIIA-Victoria) arrived in Taiwan on Wednesday to engage in discussions aimed at boosting trade and reinforcing bilateral relations. Led by Rowan Callick, Vice President of the Australia-Taiwan Business Council, the 15-member group seeks to enhance economic ties and cultural exchanges between the two regions.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan, Tien Chung-kwang, highlighted the importance of Australia as a strategic partner, sharing values such as democracy, freedom, and human rights. According to reports from the Central News Agency, Tien expressed hope for Australia’s support in Taiwan’s efforts to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), emphasizing the potential for mutual benefits in regional prosperity and development.
Tien also acknowledged Australia’s role in advocating for Taiwan at various international platforms, appreciating its efforts to maintain a rules-based international order and protect shared universal values.
Rowan Callick reiterated the strong ongoing interactions between Taiwan and Australia across various sectors, including economy, investment, culture, and education. He noted that this visit aims to further deepen understanding and cooperation between the two sides.
The Australian Institute of International Affairs, established in 1933, continues its mission as a think tank to educate the Australian public on global issues, enhancing the country’s engagement in international affairs.
