Amazon has announced the promotion of Udit Madan to the position of Vice President of Worldwide Operations, where he will oversee the company’s extensive logistics network. Previously serving as the VP of Transportation, Madan has been responsible for managing Amazon’s sortation, trucking, air, and last-mile delivery operations.
Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores, shared in a communication to employees that he anticipates a productive collaboration with Madan. Herrington expressed confidence in Madan’s ability to enhance delivery speeds, expand product selection, and reduce operational costs for customers.
Madan’s career at Amazon began in 2008 when he joined the company as a software development engineer. His role within the organization evolved significantly over the years. In 2021, he assumed leadership of a newly formed division that included delivery operations, delivery experience teams, and associated technology and products. The following year, Madan’s responsibilities expanded to encompass the management of Amazon’s entire transportation network.
He succeeds John Felton, who is moving to a new role as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Amazon Web Services, taking over from Richard Puccio. During Felton’s tenure overseeing Amazon’s worldwide operations, he played a crucial role in regionalizing the company’s U.S. fulfillment network. This strategy led to enhanced delivery speeds and a reduction in operating costs.
Felton praised Madan as an adept and experienced leader in the company’s operations. He highlighted Madan’s significant contributions, particularly in the development of Amazon Logistics and the growth of the Transportation business, which has improved the integration between middle and last-mile operations. Felton’s remarks were part of a message he shared with Amazon employees.
