Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced plans to accelerate bilateral free trade agreement negotiations with South Korea, as reported by state television CCTV. During the G20 Summit, President Xi discussed the deepening of cooperation between China and South Korea, particularly in areas such as high-tech manufacturing, big data, and the green economy.
In addition to trade discussions, President Xi emphasized the significance of ensuring “safe, stable, and smooth global supply chains.” He also expressed opposition to the “politicization of economic cooperation” and the concept of “broadening of security.” The latter term has been used by Beijing when critiquing the United States and its allies for obstructing economic deals involving China on the grounds of national security concerns.
South Korea holds considerable importance as a source of high-tech products for China, making these trade negotiations a significant development in their economic relationship.
