The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development has approved a $376,000 grant to enhance logistics training at the College of Southern Nevada (CSN). This funding, part of the Workforce Innovations for a New Nevada (WINN) fund, aims to support the development of logistics and operations training programs at CSN’s North Las Vegas campus and the Westside Education and Training Center.
The grant will be used to build four logistics labs and to certify instructors for the new courses. The initiative is designed to meet the growing demand in Southern Nevada’s logistics sector, which benefits from its proximity to major transportation hubs such as the Port of Los Angeles and Phoenix.
The Regional Transportation Commission estimates that the logistics sector in Southern Nevada currently supports around 80 jobs, with expectations for growth as demand increases. Local businesses, including Findlay Automotive Group and Sunshine Minting, are collaborating with CSN to shape the program’s curriculum and provide potential employment opportunities for graduates.
This training expansion is part of a broader $1.7 million investment by the WINN fund, which also includes $485,000 for expanding CSN’s nursing program and $832,230 for advanced mining training at Great Basin College in Elko. The WINN fund has distributed nearly $8.7 million in this biennium to support key industries in Nevada’s economic development.
