Walmart Canada is making significant changes to its supply chain operations, with a focus on automation and robotics. Brianna Scullion, Corporate Affairs at Walmart Canada, recently shared details of these changes in a blog post.
The retailer is introducing advanced technologies to enhance efficiency and productivity. One notable initiative is the implementation of material handling robotics and automation technologies. At its Regional Distribution Center (RDC) in Calgary, Alberta, Walmart Canada is piloting an automated receiving solution. This solution is reported to expedite the process of moving products from trailers to the facility, boasting a 90 percent increase in speed compared to manual methods.
However, the primary motivation behind these improvements is to enhance the working conditions for employees.
Matt Kelly, Vice President of Supply Chain at Walmart Canada, emphasized the company’s commitment to leveraging technology to better serve its customers. He stated, “Walmart Canada is on a tech-powered journey, and this investment ensures we can deliver for our customers in Canada, now and in the future. As a people-led tech-powered company, we pair exceptional talent with innovative solutions, to make our supply chain network work harder for our customers.”
The introduction of Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) will facilitate the transportation of received pallets to processing stations, while robotic depalletizers will handle the placement of pallets onto conveyors. Additionally, Auto Case Label Applicators will streamline the process of scanning and applying shipping labels to packages as they move through to the shipping dock.
This move reflects Walmart Canada’s commitment to embracing technological advancements to improve its supply chain operations and meet the evolving needs of its customers. For industry news updates, readers can rely on DMN.
