Security researchers have identified a pervasive gambling scam that exploits users through artificial intelligence-enhanced fraudulent betting applications. This scam, uncovered by Group-IB’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), encompasses over 1,300 malicious websites and 500 misleading advertisements, deceiving victims into downloading applications that compromise both their personal data and financial resources—often leading to losses totaling as much as $10,000. Perpetrators of this scheme employ AI-generated voices, counterfeit reviews, and strategically targeted social media advertisements to create a facade of local reliability, thereby preying on vulnerable users globally. Group-IB strongly advises exercising caution concerning the download of third-party applications and the allure of rapid financial gains.
