The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested the suspected leader of a Japanese scam organization working in the Philippines. This person is accused of tricking elderly Japanese citizens by pretending to be police officers and asking for large amounts of money for fake legal fees. The arrest was carried out by the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU), which had been watching this group for a while. Authorities discovered a fake Filipino ID on the suspect, and their scheme was similar to the well-known “Luffy group” scam. The BI is now looking into whether this group may have also scammed Filipinos and plans to send the suspect back to Japan. This action is important to help stop local individuals from being recruited to take part in such scams in the Philippines.
