Ant Group, the operator of Alipay, has entered into a partnership with DFS Group, a Hong Kong-based luxury travel retail company, with the aim of enhancing digital payment and marketing capabilities across DFS Group’s extensive network. This network encompasses 36 brick-and-mortar stores across 15 different markets, in addition to 12 online stores spanning four markets.
As part of this collaboration, Alipay+ will be seamlessly integrated into DFS Group’s payment options. This integration aims to provide customers with more favorable foreign exchange rates and improved cross-border payment acceptance from various mobile wallets. Notably, partner wallets include KakaoPay from Korea, Touch ‘n Go eWallet from Malaysia, and TrueMoney from Thailand.
Furthermore, DFS has introduced the Alipay+ D-store on the Alipay app, enabling Chinese customers to reserve items for in-store pickup or home delivery. This move is expected to enhance the overall shopping experience for Chinese consumers.
In an effort to bolster the visibility of DFS, both the Alipay app and partner wallets will offer shoppers targeted rewards and exclusive offers, among other benefits.
It’s worth mentioning that the partnership between Ant Group and DFS dates back to 2014, when they initially enabled Alipay payments in Hong Kong stores. During the first half of the current year, purchases at DFS stores by Alipay users saw a substantial threefold increase compared to 2022.
In 2023, Ant Group has been actively expanding its global presence. This has included an entry into the Australian market, announcement of partnerships in Thailand, and integration into all payment systems at 7-Eleven stores in Malaysia.
