Recent figures from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, shared by the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF), show a big boost in U.S. pork exports to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in November. Exports reached 5,517 metric tons, a noteworthy 65% increase from the same month last year. The total value of these exports also went up, reaching $11.6 million.
Much of this growth came from higher shipments to the Philippines, Malaysia, and Vietnam. From January to November, exports to the ASEAN countries totaled 72,678 metric tons, which is a 21% increase compared to the previous year. The overall value for this period was $160 million, marking a 13% rise year-over-year.
Malaysia set new records with its U.S. pork imports, hitting 7,770 metric tons, which is a 71% increase, with a total value of $24.3 million, up 70% from the previous year.
The upward trend in U.S. pork exports to the ASEAN region matches larger trends seen in 2024. For example, in September, exports to this area were 7,701 metric tons, an impressive 83% jump from the same month last year, with a value of $16 million. This increase was driven by strong demand from the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore. In August, exports also rose by 45% year-over-year to 7,130 metric tons, valued at $16.2 million, again led by significant growth in the Philippines and record high shipments to Malaysia.
This steady rise in U.S. pork exports to the ASEAN region shows that demand is growing in these markets and that trade relationships between the United States and Southeast Asian countries are strengthening.
