The incident came to light on August 24, 2024, when the victim reported several unauthorized transactions made with his missing credit card. Following investigations, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division identified and apprehended the suspect on September 17, 2024. Preliminary findings suggest that the man found the victim’s credit card and subsequently used it for unauthorized transactions.
The suspect is scheduled to be charged in court on September 18, 2024, with the offense of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871. If convicted, he faces imprisonment for up to 10 years and a fine.
The Singapore Police Force has emphasized that unauthorized use of another person’s credit or debit card information is a serious offense. They advise the public to adopt preventive measures, such as opting for SMS notifications for any charges incurred on their cards and regularly checking bank statements for discrepancies.
This arrest underscores the importance of safeguarding personal financial information and promptly reporting any unauthorized transactions to authorities.
