In a strategic move marking the beginning of 2024, Qatar Duty Free (QDF) has announced the appointment of Stuart Barnard as Vice President, a role that encompasses Supply Chain, Warehouse, and Logistics. This step signifies QDF’s continued commitment to strengthening its executive team, a process that saw considerable momentum in 2023.
QDF, a prominent player in the retail and catering sectors, operates exclusively at Hamad International Airport, Doha. The organization has been on an upward trajectory, enhancing its operations and services at one of the busiest international airports.
Stuart Barnard, a seasoned professional in the logistics sector, brings to the table an extensive background in the field. His expertise spans several key geographic regions including the UK, Europe, and the Middle East. Over a career spanning more than 15 years, Barnard has honed his skills at World Duty Free among other major organizations. His experience is marked by a track record of building and mentoring high-performance teams, both as an in-house expert and as a consultant.
In his new role at QDF, Barnard is tasked with leading the evolution of the company’s pivotal supply chain and warehouse functions. This includes a focus on optimizing talent, refining processes, and upgrading systems – elements critical to maintaining operational efficiency and effectiveness. According to Thabet Musleh, QDF Senior Vice President, 2023 was a landmark year for the company, and Barnard’s addition to the team is expected to further fortify QDF’s market position.
Musleh emphasizes that the Supply Chain, Warehouse, and Logistics sector, while not directly visible to end-consumers, plays a crucial role in ensuring the seamless delivery of services. It is integral to maintaining productive relationships with brand partners and delivering exceptional in-store experiences to customers.
The appointment of Barnard is a part of a series of strategic hires by QDF. Previously, in September, the company welcomed Grant Fleming as Vice President, Food & Beverage, and Nuno Moreira as Vice President, Strategy & Commercial. Earlier, Musleh himself ascended from his previous role as QDF Vice President to his current position.
Through these appointments, QDF underlines its commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in its operations. The focus on bolstering its leadership in supply chain management is indicative of the growing importance of efficient logistics in the global retail and airport services sectors.
