DP World Cochin registered a growth of 17% in 2024 compared to the previous year, handling a record 840,564 TEUs at its International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT). This milestone marks the highest volume handled by the terminal to date.
The terminal’s capacity was further enhanced in 2024 with the introduction of new ship-to-shore cranes, e-RTGs, and expanded yard space. These upgrades have boosted the terminal’s total capacity to approximately 1.4 million TEUs per year, positioning it as one of the largest terminals in South and East India. Additionally, improvements in power infrastructure have ensured more reliable and efficient operations during peak demand periods. The electrification of yard equipment has also contributed to reducing the terminal’s carbon footprint, aligning with sustainability goals.
In 2024, DP World Cochin handled approximately 657 vessel calls and achieved its largest-ever single vessel exchange, with 6,157 TEUs exchanged with the MSC Aurora. The terminal also managed multiple ultra-large container vessels, over 365 meters in length, underscoring its ability to accommodate larger vessels and increasing volumes.
Further expanding its offerings, DP World launched the 75,000 sq. ft. Cochin Economic Zone, Kerala’s first Free Trade and Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) and India’s first economic zone within a major port. The new zone is designed to support trade and enhance connectivity with the container terminal, reinforcing the terminal’s role in facilitating regional trade and economic growth.
