Girteka, a leading logistics company, is working hard to lower carbon emissions in the transport sector. The company is using a variety of strategies that involve updating its vehicle fleet, embracing technology, and increasing options for transporting goods by both road and rail.
Updating the Fleet and Using Greener Fuels
A key part of Girteka’s plan is to keep its vehicle fleet modern to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The company has a relatively young fleet, averaging just two years old, which meets the strict Euro 6 emission standards. They are also adding battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and using alternative fuels like HVO100, highlighting their dedication to greener transportation. To achieve these goals, Girteka is partnering with top tech companies and vehicle manufacturers.
Using Technology for Sustainability
Girteka is harnessing digital technology to improve its logistics and lessen its environmental impact. By deploying artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and data analysis, the company is optimizing route planning and fuel use. Advanced tools like Real-Time Visibility (RTV) and AI-based route optimization help reduce the number of empty journeys and boost overall efficiency.
Growing Intermodal Transport Options
Understanding the environmental advantages of rail transport, Girteka has added intermodal services to its operations. This means they combine different transport methods, like rail and road, which can lower CO2 emissions by as much as 90% compared to relying solely on road transport. In 2022, Girteka’s intermodal operations totaled over 16.22 million kilometers by rail, cutting down more than 16.7 million kilograms of CO2 emissions. The company is working with partners like Helrom, CargoBeamer, CFL, and Lorry-Rail & VIIA Rail Motorways to strengthen its intermodal network on key European routes.
Commitment to Openness and Education
Girteka believes in being transparent about its emissions. Using the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) Framework, the company keeps track of and reports its emissions accurately. They also provide thorough eco-driving training for their drivers to help them use fuel more efficiently and ensure safer driving on the road.
By taking these steps, Girteka hopes to greatly lessen its environmental impact and support the wider shift towards reducing carbon emissions in the transport and logistics sector.
