Mount Ibu in North Maluku, Indonesia, erupted on Saturday evening, sending ash high into the air—about 4,000 meters above the volcano. The eruption lasted a little over three minutes, releasing gray ash that drifted west and spewing hot lava up to two kilometers from the crater. As a result, officials have banned public activities, including hiking, within a four-kilometer area and 5.5 kilometers to the north of the volcano. They are advising people to wear masks and glasses for protection, as the volcano remains at an “Alert” level. This eruption is part of Mount Ibu’s ongoing activity that began in June 2024. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation.
