The International Climate Collaborative (ICC) has initiated a new platform, ‘Earth Exponential’, aimed at increasing funding for environmental causes under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. This move comes in response to the observation that less than 10% of CSR funding was allocated to environmental causes between 2015 and 2021. Specifically, environment-related causes received Rs 6,183 crore out of a total of Rs 67,193 crore in CSR funding during this period.
The ‘Earth Exponential’ platform, supported by JSW Foundation, is designed to bridge the gap between funders and non-profit organizations. It focuses on showcasing credible, high-impact, and India-led climate solutions. The platform’s core function is to curate, evaluate, and present domestic climate projects, facilitating their growth by connecting them with potential funders.
A key objective of ‘Earth Exponential’ is to lower the entry barriers for funders. This is achieved by simplifying the process of discovering solutions and enhancing knowledge around these initiatives. The platform is committed to providing a service without charging a fee for the facilitation between funders and projects.
Shloka Nath, Chief Executive of ICC, emphasized the significant potential of India’s indigenous climate solutions in addressing climate change inclusively. ICC, founded by corporate and philanthropic leaders including Rohini Nilekani, Ratan Tata, Anand Mahindra, and Sangita Jindal, aims to tackle the pressing need to fill critical gaps in the journey towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
zSangita Jindal, Chairperson of JSW Foundation, highlighted the urgency to address these gaps. ‘Earth Exponential’ aims to facilitate this by creating a collaborative ecosystem of funders and non-profit organizations. The platform is poised to contribute significantly to innovative and homegrown solutions, essential for sustainable environmental progress.
