The alliance between HMM, Ocean Network Express (ONE), and Yang Ming Marine Transport, known as the Premier Alliance, became effective on Sunday, according to the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC). The alliance will remain in place for five years.
Originally scheduled to begin on December 12, 2024, the alliance’s implementation was delayed by the FMC on December 6 due to concerns about the operational agreement’s lack of details regarding potential competitive impacts.
HMM, ONE, and Yang Ming responded to the FMC’s request by providing additional documentation to clarify issues that were not addressed in the original agreement. The Commission deemed the information provided as satisfactory on December 26, 2024.
The Premier Alliance, announced in September, involves cooperation between the carriers on their mainline services across major trade routes, including connections between Asia and the North American West Coast, the North American East Coast, the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, and the Middle East.
