AI is increasingly being used in various industries, including answering calls and conducting legal research, with the rise of models like ChatGPT. Google’s AI division, DeepMind, has placed a strong emphasis on scientific advancements. DeepMind’s leader, Demis Hassabis, was a co-recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry last year for technology developed within the unit.
In one experiment related to liver fibrosis, the AI tool demonstrated the potential to identify promising approaches for disease inhibition. It also showed the ability to improve solutions generated by experts over time. While further validation is needed, this finding suggests that AI systems could significantly augment and accelerate scientific research.
The AI tool is intended to complement researchers, not replace them, and is expected to enhance scientific collaboration, according to Google scientists involved in the project.
