PANAMA CITY (Reuters) – The Panama Canal Authority issued a statement late Wednesday confirming that no changes have been made to the charges or rights associated with crossing the canal. This follows a claim by the U.S. State Department that U.S. government vessels could pass through the canal without being subject to the usual fees.
The Panama Canal Authority also expressed its openness to engage in discussions with relevant U.S. officials concerning the transit of wartime vessels from the United States.
