The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has ended its contract with BF Corporation and Foresight Development and Surveying Company, the group in charge of building Area A of the Unified Grand Central Station in Metro Manila. This decision, announced on March 6, 2025, comes after significant delays in the project’s progress.
The Unified Grand Central Station, also known as the North Triangle Common Station, is meant to link four major train lines: LRT-1, MRT-3, MRT-7, and the Metro Manila Subway. The project was originally supposed to be finished by January 2021 but has faced several setbacks due to issues like the COVID-19 pandemic, moving utility lines, and upgrading systems. Because of these challenges, the expected opening date has now been pushed to 2025.
On March 4, 2025, the new Transportation Secretary, Vince Dizon, made an unexpected visit to check on Area A of the station. During the inspection, he found that construction had stopped since August 2024, and many parts of the project were still not finished. This led the DOTr to decide to terminate the contract with the construction group, which was officially done two days later.
Now, the DOTr is looking at ways to restart construction and speed up the completion of the station. However, officials believe that even with quick action, the station might not be ready for use until 2028. The department is committed to addressing transportation issues in the capital and is looking for other solutions to lessen the impact of these delays on commuters.
The Unified Grand Central Station is an important project aimed at improving Metro Manila’s public transport by making it easier for people to switch between major train lines. The DOTr’s decision to end the current contract shows the government’s commitment to ensuring that such projects are completed on time and meet high standards.
