Carousel Logistics has announced the opening of a new facility at Birmingham Airport, enhancing its capacity to manage time-critical air cargo services between the UK and key European manufacturing regions. This development aims to support industries requiring prompt delivery of essential parts and equipment.
The company operates nightly flights into Birmingham from Frankfurt and Maastricht, transporting over 20 tonnes of critical equipment each night. These shipments include COVID-19 testing kits, personal protective equipment (PPE), high-tech medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and vital spare parts for the materials handling and agricultural sectors. An additional leg of the service extends from Birmingham to Dublin each evening.
Graham Martin, co-founder and group CEO of Carousel Logistics, emphasized the company’s commitment to maintaining efficient operations: “Each night, our flight moves potentially life-saving products, as well as critical parts required in the food production and distribution industry.”
In response to the reduction of scheduled services at Birmingham Airport due to the pandemic, the airport has adjusted runway operating hours. However, it continues to support cargo, passenger, and emergency flights. Carousel’s collaboration with the airport ensures the continuation of its nightly services, facilitating early morning deliveries.
Nick Barton, CEO of Birmingham Airport, highlighted the airport’s role during the pandemic: “Birmingham Airport is crucial to our region’s infrastructure and has remained operational throughout this pandemic to support the transit of critical goods as well as emergency operations and passenger services.”
This partnership underscores the importance of collaboration between logistics providers and airport authorities in maintaining essential supply chains, particularly during challenging times.
