MUNICH and BOR, CZECH REPUBLIC – Zooplus, an established online pet retailer in Europe, in collaboration with GXO Logistics, Inc., a specialized contract logistics provider, recently unveiled a new logistics center. This development marks a notable progression in their ongoing partnership.
The center, located in Bor, Czech Republic, utilizes GXO’s advanced technology to bolster Zooplus’s operational capabilities, aiming to improve its service delivery across European pet markets. The facility spans 60,000 square meters (about 645,834 square feet) and incorporates sophisticated automation technology. This enhancement is expected to increase Zooplus’s daily delivery capacity and reduce delivery times for its customers.
Joost Bous, Chief Operating Officer of Zooplus, commented on the new center’s role in their logistics network, highlighting its integration with existing infrastructure and the benefits of partnering with GXO. He noted that the center supports Zooplus’s goal to become a comprehensive and convenient pet destination in Europe, focusing on customer-centric values and regional responsiveness.
With the ability to manage an array of approximately 14,000 pet products and handle significant parcel volumes, the Bor facility is set to play a crucial role in meeting customer demand across Central and Western Europe. GXO states that the center can process nearly 36 parcels per minute, translating to over 200,000 customer parcels weekly.
In line with Zooplus’s and GXO’s commitment to sustainability, the fulfillment center is designed to meet high environmental, social, and ethical standards. It complies with BREEAM guidelines and incorporates energy-saving features like LED lighting, solar panels, and improved energy efficiency measures. The facility also employs advanced packaging technologies and processes that aim to reduce paper and plastic usage, minimize carbon emissions, and enhance transport efficiency. Additionally, the center features a smart battery charging system for its handling equipment, contributing to its sustainability profile.
This new logistics center is part of a multi-year agreement between GXO and Zooplus, which was initially announced in early 2022. The two companies have worked together for five years, with GXO supporting Zooplus’s warehousing and logistical needs. GXO reports significant growth in product variety and outbound volume for Zooplus in Spain over this period.
Richard Cawston, President of Europe at GXO, expressed enthusiasm about expanding the partnership with Zooplus in Europe. He highlighted the strategic position of the new facility in Bor to support Zooplus’s growth and its contribution to improving access to major markets. Cawston looks forward to continuing the partnership and enhancing service quality.
